groovy! the arrangement is absolutely splendid, i love how everything comes together nicely in the end. to be apt, the melodies and harmonies are also quite heavenly. the drums are simple but still get your head nodding. overall fantastic!

also maybe at this rate in about a year you'll make a twenty minute long song :)

wineplume responds:

21 minute song sounds impossible to me... but who knows... thanks for the review by the way

i love autumn! it's my favorite season

i love this song too, i like the breakdown in the middle, and the melodies are surprisingly uplifting while also having a tinge of melancholy. maybe the kick drum could have been a bit louder or have had some sidechain, and maybe there could be more background pads and ear candies, but the songwriting is very solid.

wineplume responds:

i love autumn, too (right now it's snowing where i live LOL)
thanks for the review!

the bitcrushing on this is really cool! it makes it almost feel like a song from an old video game OST

the acid lines sound awesome, and i like the machinery sounds in the background, they really sell the technoid feeling.

very citrus-y, orange, acidic, all these things, in a way

personally i do hear a giant hole in the spectrum in the mids, like they're not loud enough. other than that though everything is very solid! i like the juxtaposition of the ravey stabs and modern basses

cool blocky sound design as usual, neat take on the genre, quite nice for being done in four hours! the exponential rhythm into the drop at 2:50 sounded amazing! the brief halftime switchup afterwards sounded really cool too!

pretty neat oldschool edm vibes here, i like the sort of "hammer-iness" of the arrangement, the way the chords and bass hit at the same time as the kick. the piano solo at the end is very good too! the little fills and details throughout are very nice as well. i do think the kick could stand out a bit more, maybe through more sidechaining or a high shelf on the kick. also maybe more generally the mix could use a tad more high end (especially the bass, though this may just be my taste)

ImmyShack responds:

Yo! Thanks for the review.

I'll try boosting the high end. If you must know I added bass boost to the bass, which is the reason its not so present in the high freqs.

Is the kick not powerful enough?! Literally every instrument is sidechained as well as kick being almost the loudest instrument in the mix.

ooh, the chords in the drop are really cool! i don't remember that from the wip versions.

all in all cool tune!

i do not like the song name

cool tune, if maybe a little generic. i do appreciate the trancey y2k vibes! the melodies are nice, although the mix does feel a bit flat, and i do feel like there aren't enough breaks in the melody and drums at the end of the phrases to keep you on your toes. i feel like maybe some saturation on the master or mix busses would help make the tune more full. lastly maybe the vocal samples are a bit loud? but cool tune otherwise

Slimetok responds:

I'll keep in mind that. Thank you for the feedback!

Also, I've forgot to add a lil pattern, so 2:45 is kinda offbeat

title idea: "Aksakana"

mix wise it's a little too honky and midrange-heavy for me, but i really like the broken triplet time! i feel like the drums are a bit quiet, especially in the highs, but that may just be because of the ridiculous midrange. the main melody also gets a bit repetitive after a while, i would have loved to hear some variation. lastly the part at 2:24 feels a bit empty; maybe some background element or saturation would help?

EDIT: the title idea's just a word that came to me while listening to this. i think the structure of the word reflects the irregular rhythm of the tune :) also the mix sounds much better now! i like the new bells too

MauveDash responds:

Repetitiveness is an issue of no ideas :(

I've implemented a little bit of stuff! But felt like keeping the mid-range around towards the end. Overall mid-range was lowered a ton since that seemed to be a recurring issue that I have.

I also added bells at the end since I liked how they sounded :D
[The bit at 2:24 I agree, but I liked the empty]

[Name Idea: ngl I have no idea what that means, but it sounds neat]

Thanks for the genuine feedback!

really nice! i enjoyed how the distortion was applied here, along with the subtle detuning and general liminal vibes. i do think maybe a more "synth-y" timbre for the main key instrument would have been appropriate, rather than a straightforward piano, but i think the current sound works too. also maybe the melody is... too soothing? maybe some more detuning or some "wrong" notes would help the mood even more. but overall pretty good!

I think you'll like this one a bit more - https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1357195

The one here had to be toned down a bit, it's meant to be played in game during a voice over. The new upload is what I would have done had it just been some standard bit of level ambience.

I added some really thick drums and some bubbling pop synth plucks.
